Patronage Update

The Dales Pony Society is delighted to announce that His Majesty The King will continue as Patron of the Society, following the review of his royal patronages after his ascension to the throne. The Society has been honoured with Royal Patronage since 2014 when His Majesty the King, then His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, became our Patron.

Our Society aims to promote and encourage breeding of high-class Dales Ponies, maintaining the wonderful native pony breed. With Dales Ponies still classed as a priority breed for conservation purposes, the Society greatly values the support of His Majesty in helping to preserve the endangered breed for future generations.

Janet James, Chairman of the Society said, “We are honoured that His Majesty the King will continue as Patron of the Dales Pony Society, our Council, Honorary Secretary and Members value his passion and promotion of our rare breed.”

His Majesty met Dales Ponies and Society Members as part of the Society’s centenary year celebrations in 2016.

New Stallion Service Log Form

Annual Stallion Service Log to replace return of Stallion Service Books

The Stallion Service Log replaces Stallion Service Books, to save postage costs for both Stallion Owners and the Society. Print off and complete a Stallion Service Log for each stallion over the season and return to the Secretary via post or email by 30th November each year.

Stallion Service Books will still be issued to stallions on licensing if they are to be used on outside mares and completed white slips should still be given to owners of outside mares when the mare is serviced. However, there is no need to use the white slips if your own stallion is servicing your own mares.

Further information can be found in the guidance on the back of the Stallion Service Log document, or don’t hesitate to be in touch with any questions on dalesponysociety@gmail.com

Stallion Licensing 2024

Stallion Licence application forms for 2024 are now available and can be found on our Colts and Stallions page.

Please be in touch with the Secretary if you’re looking to license a colt so forms and a DNA sample bag can be sent out to you. You must ensure that the colt has a clear FIS test ahead of applying.

Colts can be licensed from two years old. Any stallion three years and over used for showing must be licensed.

2024 SPARKS Mare Sheets

SPARKS mare sheets for the 2024 breeding season are available now!

Please contact dalesponysociety@gmail.com to request sheets for your mares or for more information (provide a list of registered names).

Sheets are available for any mare 20 years or younger. Mares must be under your ownership or keepership with the Society.

For those wanting more information on the SPARKS breeding tool, an article will be published in the upcoming Yearbook. Please ensure your membership is up to date so there is no delay in receiving your Yearbook once they’ve been printed.

Many thanks to Andy Dell at Nottingham Trent University for once again providing the Society and its members with vital information to aid the conservation and survival of our much loved breed!
