The Dales Pony Society runs several shows a year. These are open to members only (join here).
The Spring Stallion & Breed show is held on the first Saturday in May near Barnard Castle, Co Durham.
The Summer Breed show (including HOYS qualifier) is held on the first Saturday in August near Barnard Castle, Co Durham.
Schedules for the above two are sent to all members automatically.
There are regional breed shows held each year; the Southern, the Midlands, Derbyshire, East Anglian and Cumbrian. See below for details.
Dales Pony Society Ridden Pony of the Year
The final of the Dales Pony Society Ridden Pony of the Year takes place at the DPS Spring Show for the previous year. Ponies can qualify for the final at six shows: Spring Show; Cumbria Fell and Dales Show; Southern Show; Derbyshire Fells, Dales and Highlands Show; Midlands Show; and Summer Show.
The DPS Show Secretary sends two qualifier rosettes and qualifier cards to the individual show secretary at the beginning of the season. Thus it is possible to have twelve ponies qualify for the final.
At the designated shows, the Overall Ridden Champion and Reserve from the Dales-only classes are given the qualifier. If the pony has already qualified, the qualifier is passed down the line. The ponies are given a qualifier rosette and a qualifier card.
If a pony intends to enter the final, then the exhibitor must send the qualifier card, with any other entries for the Spring Show, to the DPS Show Secretary in order that a number can be allocated and the entry made in the catalogue. There is no entry fee for the final.
Champion and reserve sashes, rosettes and prize cards are presented at the final. All other qualified ponies taking part in the final will be presented with a finalist rosette.
Entry Form Definitions
The following definitions apply when making entries for DPS shows.
- Owner: The person whose name appears in the passport and stud book
- Exhibitor: The person who makes the entry to the show
- Handler/Rider: The person who is handling or riding the pony in the ring
The Exhibitor needs to be a paid-up Full Member. The Handlers and Riders need to be paid-up Members.
