Dales Pony Society Stud Visit

Saturday 6th July 2024

Start 11am

Holme Farm, Malham, nr Skipton, N Yorks. BD23 4DA

The Malhamdale Stud will showcase their resident stallion and broodmares and young stock for Dales Pony Society members followed by demonstrations with ponies they have in training with sister business, Great All Rounders.

This will be a great opportunity to see the Dales Ponies in their native environment in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, ask questions about what characteristics of the breed are prized for negotiating the terrain around Malham and meet like minded friends.

Dales ponies here have been used for so many disciplines here at this stud to name a few; trekking and trail riding, dressage, jumping, Trec, endurance, driving, packing, field work, logging, arena grading, leading and training racehorses to be calm, riding for the disabled, showing and film work.

Many Dales ponies are sent here to be started and there’ll be an opportunity to pick up some training tips to take home to try on your own Dales Ponies.

Zana has also been used as a “pony shopper” for people needing help selecting a Dales and she’ll share knowledge on what she looks for depending on what the client wants which may help those who are going to be shopping themselves this year.

Holme Farm is located in the heart of Malham village which is a VERY busy tourist destination. The road in is very narrow and can get bottle necked, so allow extra time to travel in to arrive on time. There will be tea and coffee available for early arrivals. It’s better to arrive early!

Parking at the farm is limited and will be available on a reserved basis only and priority given to any peoples with limited mobility. Other parking is available at the National Park Centre which is next door to the farm, in fact people parking here can access our yard through the arena back gateway. Spaces will fill fast so if this is full, farmers will open parking in nearby fields, but be prepared for a walk then to the yard. Sadly, parking charges apply.

All the fields where breeding and youngstock can be viewed are out of the village, so walking boots are needed. Those with limited mobility will be able to get there in a four wheel drive vehicle, so can follow the walkers that way.

Demonstrations will be after lunch on the arena. Please let the stud know if you’re planning on attending and then they’ll know how many to cater for.

There are many places to stay in Malham for those wanting to make a weekend of the visit.
