The Dales Pony Society set up the Young Committee in June 2012. Our first meeting held at the Parish Hall, Barnard Castle and brought together young members of the Society committed to the breed. Over the last 3 years the Young Committee has organized a range of successful events from a Native Pony Extravaganza, to stud visits and open meetings.
The YC currently comprises of 13 members of the Dales Pony Society age under 35.
Positions are elected yearly.

You can now stay in touch with the DPS Young Committee using our brand new facebook page, just search Dales Pony Society Under 35s. Upcoming events will be listed on the page and we love to hear what young members have been getting up to with their ponies! The Young Committee is busy organising events for the Dales Pony Society Centenary Year in 2016, in the meantime please see this year's events listed below. All young members of the DPS (under 35) are welcome to our events, please ensure under 18s are accompanied by an adult. We also occasionally hold events for all members of the society. You do not need to be a Young Committee member to attend the events, but if anybody is interested in the Young Committee's work please do get in touch!
The DPS Young Committee annually asks DPS members to nominate their DPS Young Achiever of the Year. All nominees are presented with a rosette marking their achievements at the yearly DPS AGM meeting, with the winner being presented with the Langrigg Cup. Any young member (Full or Junior under 35 years) of the society may be nominated, who has done something great with their Dales Pony in that year.
The Langrigg Cup was presented to Owen Wallbanks in 2014, for his hard work and commitment to riding and driving Dales ponies. Owen won both a riding and driving class at the Summer Breed show, something of which not many adults have achieved, let alone a junior. Well done, Owen!
A training and demonstration day at Richmond Equestrian Centre on Saturday 23 April. Southern stud visits on 24 and 25 September. Further details tbc.
The last event was a visit to the Griseburn Stud kindly hosted by Helen Horne which we all enjoyed and found very informative.
The Summer Supper and Open Meeting at Stonnall Village Hall, Stonnall, West Midlands, was held on Saturday 18 July. It was open all DPS members who took the opportunity to look at old photos and stud books as well as chatting and discussing about various subjects around Dales ponies.
The DPS Young Committee hosted a successful lecture/demo evening or all native breeds on Saturday 16 March 2013. Mr P Boustead and Mr R Sutcliffe kindly talked us through the world of the native pony in-hand, ridden and working hunter. Part of a day long native pony extravaganza, the event was a huge hit, with lots of money raised for the DPS Centenary year.
YC at Your Horse Live
Members of the DPS Young Committee had a very enjoyable weekend working on the Dales Pony Society trade stand at Your Horse Live, Stoneleigh. Alongside grey Dales mare Tudor Annie, the members of the Young Committee met many old and new fans of the Dales Pony and are really looking forward to doing more of these kinds of events.
