Susie, Secretary of the HPS, thinks you may be aware of this amazing book which was launched in time for the Royal Highland Show last month. It is a guide to everything you should know about handling and working with an entire and it covers all British native breeds so is just as appropriate to you as to Highlands. Here is a link to it: http://www.highlandponysociety.com/shop/society-merchandise/book/native-pony-stallion.html There are still a few copies signed by the author available.
The HBLB is continuing to support the CEM voucher scheme that was trialled in 2013, to cover the cost of the laboratory fee for testing of stallions that have not previously been tested for CEM. To qualify for the free test, swabs must be taken by a veterinary surgeon. They must be accompanied by the HBLB voucher , attached, completed and signed by both the stud/owner and the vet, and sent to one of the 3 participating labs. The lab will report the results of the test back to the vet and there will be no lab fee for the owner/vet.
Please be aware of changes in legislation relating to the issue and updating of equine passports that came into effect on 1 February 2014. Defra has informed the Society that further changes will be made this year to the minimum operating standards for organisations, such as the Dales Pony Society, that process equine passports. Please check regularly the new Passports page and the Services page for the most up to date information.
